Tips to avoid dental damage and what to do when things go wrong!
As children, we never think, even for a second, that we may one day lose some of our teeth permanently. Perhaps this is part of the joy of being a child, completely unaware that our actions have consequences.
As adults though, we can often look back and wish that we had taken good care of our teeth and cleaned and flossed regularly as well as not avoiding dental visits.
Generally, it should be said that, despite the increased consumption of sugar, most adults now are better educated as to how best to take care of their oral health and many do still have good teeth. At Beau Monde Dental Care we would like our patients to keep it that way too and offer the following advice on preventing damage to your teeth.
Oral Healthcare
The first step is fairly obvious; ensure that you clean your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste well and regularly. Flossing too is important to ensure that your gums are free of any bacteria that may cause gum disease. If you find flossing too difficult, there are now interdental sticks available which perform a similar role and which many people find easier to use.
You should also ensure that you allow us to monitor your oral health by keeping regular appointments at our local Bristol dentist.
Damage Prevention
However well we take care of our teeth, breakages can occur in some situations, yet many of these are easily avoided. Of course, accidents will happen and some of these we simply can’t predict but, for example, playing a sport may well increase the risk of damage to your teeth and in situations like this, wearing a sports guard which we can supply at a reasonable price, may just be a small price to pay to protect your teeth.
Care should be taken when eating to avoid biting down on an unexpected hard object such as a bone or a piece of nut shell. Surprises like these may cause your teeth to break.
Of course, sometimes we simply don’t think and perform acts that dramatically increase the risk of dental breakages; a relatively common example is chewing pen tops and the like. Quite simply, don’t do it!
When Things Go Wrong
As we said earlier, accidents will happen from time to time and when they do, it is good to know that there are top quality convenient dentists at Beau Monde Dental Care who can offer a variety of treatments to repair a damaged tooth.
In some cases, it may be that no more than a simple filling needs to be used. More severe breakages though may well require the tooth to be repaired using a dental crown.
Whatever your problem though, a quick call to our practice in Westbury Park on 0117 330 3495 will ensure that prompt and effective action is taken to save your tooth wherever possible.
