How Botox and Dermal Fillers Can Help Make You Look Younger

At Beau Monde Dental care, as with many other cosmetic dental surgeries around the UK, we have expanded the range of work that we do to include facial aesthetics. Some may argue that this has little or nothing to do with dentistry, but, as we all know, the main reason that people have most cosmetic dental treatments is to improve the way that they look, and consequently feel, about themselves.

To that end, we are now able to provide both Botox and Dermal Fillers at our Bristol dental practice so that we can not only improve the appearance of our patient's teeth, but their overall facial features too. Indeed, the two disciplines are actually quite complementary.

Why Facial Treatments?

Whether we like it or not and even if we are blessed with the best genes in the world, we will all gradually start to show obvious signs of ageing in our faces. Initially, these may simply start out as wrinkles but are often followed soon afterwards by crow's feet, sagging cheeks and thinning lips.

None of us really like to start the day by looking into a mirror, only to be reminded of our increasing age. Now, with a few relatively simple treatments, we can help reverse the signs of ageing to help you look and feel younger.

Botox

Botox, or to give it its correct name; Botulinum Toxin, is perhaps the best known of these cosmetic procedures and is highly effective at smoothing out facial wrinkles and crow's feet. Both of these will appear eventually, but can occur much sooner, for example in those who smoke, thereby bringing about an early ageing appearance.

The Botox procedure itself is very simple and is administered via a very fine needle into the area of the skin to be treated. After just a few days the full effects will be seen and the skin will appear much smoother and therefore much younger also.

The treatment itself is safe and effective and works by relaxing the facial muscles a little. Although you may have heard 'scare' stories in the media about this treatment, looking deeper usually reveals that these were performed by untrained people. At Beau Monde Dental Care, all of our staff who administer this procedure are fully trained and up to date with the latest methods.

You should experience no side effects with this treatment, although a little localised bruising may appear where the needle has entered the skin, but this will disappear soon afterwards.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers work somewhat differently to Botox treatments in that they are used to help replace hyaluronic acid which naturally hydrates the skin and helps to keep its structure intact. The body's supply of this acid gradually diminishes as we become older and, by using Restylane, a non animal hyaluronic acid, we are able to replenish this supply and return a more youthful look to your face.

The use of dermal fillers is especially useful in areas such as around the lips and nose, and, although not a permanent treatment, can last for around nine months, after which, the procedure may be repeated if desired. This procedure can also be used to fill out thinning lips which is one of the more obvious signs of ageing for many people.
